The Artist
Artist Statement
I am, at heart, an abstract artist who works in kilnformed glass. Over the decades, I have focused on cast glass sculptures, deep reliefs, and large draped sculptures. I have always been trying to create new ways of making more complex and textured surfaces, bands, cross sections, and topographies in glass. Most recently, I’ve been investigating how non-traditional Pate de Verre techniques can produce glass sculptures that reflect my experiences in Western landscapes, with their jagged rock forms, softly weathered patterns, and colorful mineral layers. I have also continued to explore various color overlay techniques, which can be extremely expressive. These approaches, and more, have shaped the narratives of my recent works in kilnformed glass. While my Pate de Verre work has mainly produced some disappointing failures, my work with color overlay techniques has more consistently been successful. Where will this take me? I’m not sure. And I’m not sure it matters. I’ve loved the journey, which has been enriching in its own right and full of successes I feel good about and failures I learn from, with
promising discoveries at every turn.
About the Artist
Bobbi Vischi is an award winning glass artist living in Colorado. She specializes in kilnformed and flameworked glass and creates large sculptural forms as well as wall art and vessels. Bobbi received her BFA and MFA from the University of Utah, where she performed with Ballet West and taught at the University. Bobbi enjoyed a career as a professional dancer, choreographer, guest artist, and educator for over 25 years. For the past 30 years, Bobbi has been a studio glass artist and educator, specializing in kiln glass. She was a founder, artist-in-residence, and faculty member of the Art Glass Center, Glen Echo National Park, Maryland. Bobbi is currently the artist/owner of Bobbi Vischi Art Glass Studio in the Boulder/Denver Colorado area. The studio specializes in sculptural and architectural kiln glass and offers art glass commissions. Bobbi’s art glass has received many awards and has been featured in magazines, galleries, national exhibitions, and private collections internationally.
